For two decades, from the mid-1980s until the mid-2000s, globalization of production through rapid expansion of international trade was incontestably the dominant economic trend across developing and high-income economies. After strong economic headwinds in recent years, economies in Europe and Central Asia (ECA) are returning to a more stable growth path.

With funding from the European Union under its EU4Business initiative, the EBRD worked with Azza, a gourmet cake-maker in Azerbaijan, to improve their production processes and increase efficiency with the help of international advisers from Belgium and the Netherlands.

With funding from the European Union under its EU4Business initiative, the EBRD worked with ABC Pharmacia, one of the main suppliers of pharmaceuticals in Georgia, to put the right tools in place to support their growth, with the help of an international consultant from Austria, provided as part of the EU4Business Advice for Small Businesses programme.
