A round table in Odessa – ‘Farmer Boom 2018’ – will discuss challenges in farming on 12 October, organised by the Odessa Business Support Centre, with the support of the EBRD as part of the EU4Business initiative.

Last year’s event, ‘Farmer Boom 2017’ had shown that primary sector financing is insufficient for the successful development of farms in Ukraine. The main conclusion was the urgent need for cooperation between the primary sector, processing industry, and logistics companies with the support of credit institutions and state authorities, in order to create a powerful cluster.

The purpose of this year’s round table is to discuss such issues ascost and quality of feed and crop materials, small profits and the search for the resources needed to increase a company’s competitiveness. Problems in the development of the farm economy, which is lagging behind modern trends in the introduction of innovative agricultural technologies, will also be discussed.

The Odessa Business Support Centre is part of the EU-funded Network of Business Support Centres, which aims to improve the competitiveness and bankability of Ukrainian SMEs through the provision of business advice and capacity building. It also supports BSOs in 15 regions of Ukraine in setting up a network of EU4Business Business Support Centres (BSCs). At least 30,000 SMEs and entrepreneurs will benefit from the project.
