
A workshop for Ukrainian berry producers is being held in Rivne on 12 July, part of a series of events on the organic cultivation of berry crops organised by the EBRD and EU4Business.
The workshop on ‘Assessment of the condition of berry plantations - the target for the harvest’ is organised by the Khmelnytskyi Business Support Centre. The series of events on technologies in organic berry cultivation crops will be held in three regions of Western Ukraine, with the final event a Conference at the end of the year, which will bring together the results of all the previous events.
The workshop will discuss specific tasks along the different stages of the cultivation cycle, including site selection, soil preparation, planning of works for the first year of cultivation, development of a technological map, phytomonitoring, preparation of documents for certification, and other issues.
Specifically, the workshop has been developed to:
1. solve production issues related to compliance with European standards EU № 834/2007 and №889/2008,
2. solve technological issues in organic production,
3. study new trends and innovations.
It is aimed at owners, managers, and senior specialists of SMEs engaged in berry production.
The training programme will include visits to LLC "Agro Organik", which is engaged in organic production in accordance with the requirements of the EU standards. The company plants raspberries, strawberries, and rhubarb and is a partner of Solex Agro (Czech Republic), a well-known operator of berries and fruits in the EU.
The Khmelnytskyi Business Support Centre is part of the EU-funded Network of Business Support Centres, implemented in Ukraine by the EBRD, with the aim of improving improve the competitiveness and bankability of Ukrainian SMEs through the provision of business advice and capacity building. At least 30,000 SMEs and entrepreneurs will benefit from the project.
