A round table on the future of the Ukrainian honey market is being organised by the Better Regulation Delivery Office (BRDO) in Rivne on 20 April, around the theme of ‘The Honey Market – from Tradition to World Export’.
The BRDO is funded by the European Union within the framework of the FORBIZ project and the EU4Business Initiative, with the aim of simplifying the process of doing business and providing effective state regulation in key sectors of the economy.
Ukraine is among the largest honey producers in the world, accounting for up to 5% of world honey production. Beekeeping has a huge export potential and can become an industry that promotes SME development in rural areas.
At the same time, the Ukrainian honey market is predominantly ‘grey’, with only 2% of honey produced by registered business entities. The relevant legislation has a number of drawbacks and does not cover all aspects of regulation necessary for market development.
The round table in Rivne will focus on discussion with the State and businesses of ways to solve the challenges facing the honey market.
During the event, the BRDO will present and discuss the results of its study on the sector, the Green Book on ‘Honey Market Regulation’.
Among the main issues on the agenda will be:
- How to create a system of good accounting and traceability in the honey market?
- What is needed to establish transparent market entry rules?
- How to implement legal mechanisms of interaction between agro-producers and beekeepers?
- What regulatory changes does the market need?
- Will harmonisation of Ukrainian legislation with EU standards allow Ukrainian exports to increase?
