A workshop on organic berry cultivation is being held in Lviv on 12 April organised by the Khmelnitsky Business Support Centre, with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) under the EU4Business initiative.
The workshop – on ‘The beginning of a new season in organic berry cultivation’ – will be the first in a series of events on the organic cultivation of berry crops. All these events will be held in Western Ukraine and focus on working in small groups and solving issues concerning berry production.
The workshop will examine specific procedures at the different stages of cultivation (such as planning, planting, harvesting, phytomonitoring, harvesting, winter preparation, planning for the next year).
It also includes specific issues concerning the selection of the area and soil preparation, planning of work for plantations of the first year, creation of a technological map aimed at the harvest of the following years, conducting phytomonitoring, preparing documents for certification, and other issues.
The workshop aims to acquaint participants with the requirements of European standards (EU № 834/2007 and № 889/2008.), and to help with the choice and planning of territory for berries.
It is an opportunity to acquire valuable information about preparation of soil for the seeding of berry crops, development of a technological card for the first and subsequent years, biological means of protection use in berry cultivation, use of natural fertilizers for crop formation, production of compost and vermicompost.
The Khmelnytskyi Business Support Centre is part of the EU-funded Network of Business Support Centres, implemented in Ukraine by the EBRD, with the aim of improving improve the competitiveness and bankability of Ukrainian SMEs through the provision of business advice and capacity building. At least 30,000 SMEs and entrepreneurs will benefit from the project.
