A seminar on the establishment and effective management of dairy mini-farms will take place in Shepetivka in the Khmelnitsky region on 12 April, organised by the Khmelnitsky Business Support Centre and the ‘Nova Economichna Polityka’ NGO, with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) under the EU4Business initiative.
From January 1 2018, increased EU requirements for food quality, mean 95% of milk produced by households, is classified as second-rate quality and cannot be used for processing. Mini-farms, equipped with appropriate equipment for cooling and storage of dairy products, as well as enhanced sanitary and hygienic control, can ensure the production of high quality milk, but entrepreneurs need more knowledge, access to technologies and resources.
The development of the cooperative movement is also essential in terms of coordination of efforts for improved technology in the dairy
The seminar in Shepetivka aims to:
- develop cooperation in the dairy industry;
- discuss the legal aspects of the establishment, business operation and taxation of dairy farms;
- improve the quality of milk produced by households;
- discuss approaches to profitable dairy cattle breeding;
- discuss, how to increase milk consumption and feed cows effectively;
- provide information about access to financing;
- provide success-stories of innovative family dairy farms in Ukraine.
The Khmelnytskyi Business Support Centre is part of the EU-funded Network of Business Support Centres, implemented in Ukraine by the EBRD, with the aim of improving improve the competitiveness and bankability of Ukrainian SMEs through the provision of business advice and capacity building. At least 30,000 SMEs and entrepreneurs will benefit from the project.
