A round table on reform of the power generation market is being organised by the Better Regulation Delivery Office (BRDO) in Kyiv on 10 April, together with the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine.
The BRDO is funded by the European Union within the framework of the FORBIZ project and the EU4Business Initiative, with the aim of simplifying the process of doing business and providing effective state regulation in key sectors of the economy.
Ukraine has significant power generating capacities, but power plants are worn out, technologically outdated and environmentally unfriendly, while its highly concentrated market significantly restricts competition and development. The BRDO round table will encourage the joint search for solutions for electricity market reforms by the state and businesses.
The round table will discuss the following questions:
- how to create competition in a monopolised market?
- will it be possible to introduce the principles of free market pricing?
- how to create equal opportunities for electricity imports?
- how to stimulate consumer activity?
- how to develop alternative energy?
Speakers will include senior officials, experts and representatives from the sector.
