The Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry is organising a round table discussion on ‘effective tools for SME development’, taking place in Kyiv on 27 March.
The development of a competitive and innovative SME sector is of a great importance to Ukraine's economic growth and prosperity. However, the contribution of SMEs to Ukraine's GDP is much lower than in developed countries, where it exceeds 70%. This can be explained by the limited access to financial resources, excessive regulation and contradictions in business standards and requirements. The development and expansion of SMEs has been declared as one of the main priorities of state economic policy in Ukraine.
The purpose of the roundtable is to inform the business community about the use of new and effective tools for the development of SMEs, in particular, bill payments and regulatory tools to protect the interests of small businesses.
The discussion programme includes two presentations:
- "Bill payments as an effective tool for access of business (especially SMEs) to cheap finance" – T. Rudnenko, Head of ABMD
- "New regulatory tools for protecting the interests of small businesses and enhancing the impact of business associations on regulatory decisions" – Y. Yurchenko, expert of the Commercial Law Centre
The European Union also supports private sector development in Ukraine. Through a series of projects funded as part of its EU4Business initiative, the EU aims to improve the country’s business climate, makes it easier for SMEs to get finance and provides training and technical support to SMEs to help them align with EU standards, increase exports and benefit from the free trade deal between Ukraine and EU.
