A Green Paper produced by the Better Regulation Delivery Office, with the support of the EU4Business FORBIZ project, on regulations in the walnut market.
The report says Ukraine is among the world’s top five countries in terms of nut production, and Ukrainian walnut production makes up about 5% of the global output. Only 7% of the world’s agricultural land is suitable for growing nut crops, and Ukraine is firmly on the map. According to expert estimates, nuts in Ukraine can be grown on about 500,000 hectares. However, the area of nut plantations in Ukraine as of 2016 was 16,000 hectares. This means the potential in nut growing is 30 times greater than the current level.
The BRDO report carries out a systemic review of the regulatory framework of the market in order to assess its effectiveness and provide proposals for improvements.
The Better Regulation Delivery Office, together with the Ministry for Economic Development and Trade and the State Regulatory Service of Ukraine, with the support of the FORBIZ project, has launched the ProDialogue under the EU4Business initiative. It aims to involve all stakeholders in reviewing regulatory solutions and working out ways to address them. As a result, a series of Green Papers has been developed, which analyse the current state of market issues and potential ways to improve the regulatory environment. A further set of White Papers represents a consolidated product of the groundwork by the business community and expert environment in the form of practical recommendations and suggestions for the authorities in order to improve the regulatory framework.
