From 2 to 10 August 2018, the International Trade Centre (ITC), together with the ‘Ukrlegprom’ association, conducted a training for export-oriented companies in the Ukrainian garment industry aimed at improving productivity. The event was organised in the framework of the ’Eastern Partnership: Ready to Trade’ project, funded by the EU under the EU4Business initiative.

Twenty specialists from ten companies representing seven regions of Ukraine took part in the event, which took place on the site of the ‘TK-Style’ textile factory (LLC ‘Textile-Contact’) in Chernihiv.

The objective of the event was to train trainers from the companies in how to increase operational efficiency and capacity and the use of labour resources.

The participants got to known about international experience and up-to-date approaches in tailoring and interpersonal communications. Successful implementation of the skills obtained in the training should increase productivity by 15-40%.

The theoretical course was backed by practice on real manufacturing cases. Two days of practice were devoted to the improvement of operators’ skills and new trainees’ training.

On the 8th day of the training, there was a conference call organised with senior management from all participating companies, where outcomes were delivered and recommendations addressed. Specific improvement points were addressed to every company to be applied on sites.

As follow up, the ITC and Ukrlegprom will be monitoring the performance of the participants on the respective factories over the next month.

The workshop was moderated by experienced and high-profile international ITC experts Nanthakumar Ganapathy Kandasamy and Adersh Srinivas Ramesh Babu.

Simone Raudino fro the EU Delegation to Ukraine also presented project opportunities under the EU4Business initiative, and informed participants about affordable EU lending and cooperation opportunities for Ukrainian companies.

ITC National Project Manager Maryna Sydorenko outlined the ITC's support and involvement in the project.

The Eastern Partnership: Ready to Trade project helps small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to access new markets with a focus on the EU, helping SMEs identify and comply with quality and standards to meet international requirements, linking them with buyers along the value chain, and providing cluster support.
