Start Business Challenge: online tool to stimulate entrepreneurship development in Ukraine

More than 150 entrepreneurs, business associations and media attended a recent event in Kyiv to present the key features and benefits of the ‘Start Business Challenge’ tool, developed on behalf of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine bthe Better Regulation Delivery Office (BRDO), within the framework of the EU4Business FORBIZ project. 

The significance of small businesses on local economies cannot be overestimated. However, opening a business in Ukraine –making sure it complies with the regulatory requirements, that is legally compliant and legitimate, has been a major challenge. 

The business start-up support tool www.sbc.regulation.gov.ua - the ‘Start Business Challenge’ – now, a year down the line since its launch, features more than 100 online regulatory guides on how to open and operate micro businesses in the service and products sectors in Ukraine and provides a unique answer to the regulatory challenge the country has been facing. 

The online support tool for entrepreneurs features regulatory requirements at national level and includes regulatory guides on opening and running such popular micro businesses as, language courses, photo studio, web company, kindergarten, restaurant, taxi, mini bakery, family doctor’s office, mini market, car wash, internet provider, beauty salon, mini hotel, solar charging station, electric car charging stations and others. 

With the support of regional authorities, the regulatory tool has also now been tailored to 12 regional regulatory environments, providing local entrepreneurs in with hands-on local assistance in opening and running the business in the regions. 

During the event on 25 October, representatives of the State Employment Service, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine, and the Kyiv City Administration presented their entrepreneurship programmes and services for business, while selected Ukrainian entrepreneurs shared their success stories and recommendations on opening and running a business.

The Better Regulation Delivery Office (BRDO) is a regulatory policy advising and delivery institution in Ukraine, funded by the European Union under the FORBIZ project and within the framework of EU4Business Initiative. The BRDO focuses on improving the business environment and investment attractiveness of Ukraine, promoting entrepreneurship development and establishing a public dialogue between the government and businesses.
