Yerevan workshop on improving audit quality through audit oversight and quality assurance systems

 |
05/03/2018 to 06/03/2018

A workshop is being organised in Yerevan on 5-6 March to address the topic of audit quality assurance and oversight in the context of new legislation, expected to be adopted by the Armenian Parliament during the Spring of 2018. The workshop is organised in the framework of the EU4Business STAREP project (Strengthening Auditing and Reporting in the Eastern Partnership), implemented by the World Bank Centre for Financial Reporting Reform (CFRR).

The workshop is for regulators, audit firms, and other stakeholders involved in audit quality assurance and oversight in Armenia.

The main objectives of the workshop are to:

  • Advance the knowledge of participants on the role and practices of audit public oversight and quality assurance systems including their reporting.
  • Discuss international experience in setting up audit oversight and quality assurance systems. The role of professional accountancy organisations (PAOs) in audit regulation will also be discussed.
  • Initiate an awareness campaign and establish a dialogue between policy makers, regulators, and other key stakeholders on the implementation of the draft accounting, auditing and Regulation and Public Oversight of Accounting and Auditing, which are currently before Parliament and expected to be adopted during the Spring of 2018.

During the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to share and learn from each other and interact with international experts, offering their knowledge and experience of reforms to strengthen audit public oversight and quality assurance systems in various parts of the world.

Audit Public Oversight bodies have an important role in regulating, supervising, and assessing the work of statutory auditors. The external evaluations that they perform contribute to enhance audit quality, thereby improving investors’ trust in the financial information published by companies.

Strengthening Auditing and Reporting in the Countries of the Eastern Partnership (STAREP) is a regional programme funded by the EU, the Austrian Development Agency and the Austrian Ministry of Finance, as part of the EU4Business initiative. It aims to create a transparent policy environment and effective institutional framework for corporate reporting within the countries that make up the EU's Eastern Partnership.
