A round table on the future of the regulation of biofuel production as a tool of energy independenceis being organised by the Better Regulation Delivery Office (BRDO) in Kyiv on 21 May.

The BRDO is funded by the European Union within the framework of the FORBIZ project and the EU4Business Initiative, with the aim of simplifying the process of doing business and providing effective state regulation in key sectors of the economy.

Ukraine’s biofuel potential would allow it to substitute up to 35% of imported diesel fuel and create additional tools for ensuring the energy security of the transport sector. However, despite the objectives declared by the Energy Strategy of Ukraine, biofuel is hardly used at all.

During the round table (full programme), participants will discuss the following topics:

  • how the government should stimulate the development of alternative energy and support the development of biofuel industry;
  • market quotas for biofuel production and consumption in the Ukrainian market;
  • implementation of quality control mechanisms for motor fuels.

BRDO experts will also present market research on regulation of liquid motor fuels production.
