The German-Ukrainian Fund and the Kyiv City State Administration are holding a press conference on 30 October to present a new programme on the compensation of interest rates for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Kyiv, issued under the GUF’s SME Support Programme funded by the German Government through KfW in cooperation with the European Union’s EU4Business initiative.
The new programme will help to reduce interest rates for Kyiv-based SMEs to 7.5%. Funds for the compensation of interest rates for SME-loans issued by the GUF’s partner banks will be provided from the Kyiv city budget.
Interest rates compensations for SME loans will be provided under the new GUF ‘SME Investment Support’ loan programme funded by a €10 million German government loan through the German Development Bank KfW and thanks to the EU4Business initiative (through the SME Finance Facility), which has provided €5 million for covering foreign exchange risks for SME loans.
The press conference will be followed by a panel discussion on the programme including advice on practical aspects (project selection criteria, requirements on financial condition of borrowers, application procedures, etc.) and an introduction of the partner banks – ProKredit Bank, Megabank, Ukrgasbank (Tur Y.L.), Oschadbank, CreditWest Bank (A. Dubovik), and Kredobank.
Participants include Vitaliy Klitschko, Head of the Kyiv City, German Ambassador Ernst Reichel, and Berend de Groot, the Head of Cooperation at the EU Delegation to Ukraine.
The EU4Business SME Finance Facility aims to stimulate local currency lending, especially for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Ukraine that are not earning foreign currency and cannot afford the high costs of borrowing.
