A training on international standards and certification for berry producers will take place in Ukraine on 20-21 June within the framework of the ‘Ready to Trade’ project, a regional programme funded by the EU across the Eastern Partnership under the EU4Business Initiative.
The two-day Global G.A.P. course will be conducted for 20 companies in order to equip them with knowledge of Global G.A.P. standard requirements and provide participants with practical guidance and examples, to implement the Global G.A.P. system on enterprises that produce fresh berries.
Global G.A.P. is a farm assurance programme, translating consumer requirements into Good Agricultural Practice.
The training is a two-day event. The first day of the training will be held in Kyiv and be devoted to the main features of the standard certification procedure, as well as the main requirements for different stages of production. In addition, the training participants will learn about opportunities that the Global G.A.P. certificate offers companies on European markets.
The second day of the training will be held at the ‘Ukrainian Berry’ LLC farm in the Zhytomyr oblast. Last year, the company received the Global G.A.P. certificate, so the training participants will be able to see the implemented standards in action and go through production control points.
The speaker at the training is Nina Dmitrash, a Global G.A.P. production certification consultant, who has extensive experience in advisory work with Ukrainian enterprises.
The aim of the Eastern Partnership: Ready to Trade project is to improve the competiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Ukraine and other Eastern Partnership countries and to connect them to international and EU markets.
The project started in Ukraine last September, and identified the berry sector as a priority area for support in Ukraine, with the Ukrainian Berries Association becoming the key beneficiary. In Ukraine, the aim of the project is to increase the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises, in particular in the berry sector, and to support their access to European markets.
