A workshop on strengthening accounting education is being organised in Yerevan on 7-8 March, aimed at universities, professional accountancy organisations, trainers, and other stakeholders involved in accounting and audit education in Armenia. The workshop is organised in the framework of the EU4Business STAREP project (Strengthening Auditing and Reporting in the Eastern Partnership), implemented by the World Bank Centre for Financial Reporting Reform (CFRR).
The main objectives of the workshop are to disseminate the lessons learned at the regional level with the members of the Armenian community of practice, to strengthen the collaboration among the local universities and professional accountancy organisations, as well we to identify practical next steps in further modernisation of accounting and auditing education at both, university and professional levels.
The workshop will feature presentations from the World Bank’s CFRR, the Association of Accountants and Auditors of Armenia (AAAA), and key stakeholders in Armenian higher education, and will require active involvement of all participants.
- Day 1: Review and discussion of international practices in accounting education reform, as well as the situation in Armenia.
- Day 2: Participants will discuss current status of professional education in Armenia, brainstorm on the next steps in accounting education reform and national reform initiatives, and work together on initiating the development of a Country Action Plan.
Developing internationally compatible accounting education at both the university and professional development level is an underlying requirement for building the necessary capacity to support better quality corporate financial information.
