Making SMEs more competitive will be a key feature of the OECD Eurasia Week 2017 to be held in October

The OECD Eurasia Week is being held at the Rixos Almaty Hotel (pictured above) from 23 to 25 October 2017 and will count on the participation of the Eastern Partnership countries involved in the EU4Business programme.
23/10/2017 to 25/10/2017

SME competitiveness, internationalisation and access to finance for small and medium-sized companies will be high on the agenda of the OECD’s Eurasia Week in Kazakhstan in October 2017.

Eurasia Week is an opportunity for Eastern Partnership (EaP) countries involved in the EU4Business programme to strengthen their relations with one another, with countries from Central Asia and with OECD member countries. The Week serves as a platform for discussion of a broad spectrum of issues relevant to improving the competitiveness of the Eurasia region as a whole.

“Openness for Shared Prosperity” is the title of this year’s Eurasia Week, which as usual includes a business forum and a competitiveness roundtable, where the progress of individual countries is examined.

This year it is the turn of Armenia, from the EaP countries, to be subject to the scrutiny of the roundtable, with respect to its efforts to support SME competitiveness, which will be monitored on Wednesday 25 October. This will be accompanied by a Thematic Session on Investment Promotion and Business Linkages in Eastern Europe and South Caucasus.

Meanwhile, from the Central Asia region, Tajikistan’s efforts to enhance access to finance for SMEs and increase agricultural exports will be monitored on the same day, while there will also be a peer review of Uzbekistan’s progress in boosting SME internationalisation through better export promotion policies.

Best practices will be shared in the sessions, as well as experiences in addressing common challenges in the region.
