The Vanadzor Technology Centre together with the Enterprise Incubator Foundation, State Tourism Committee and Lori regional administration are organising a Hackathon on ‘Innovative ideas for tourism development in Armenia’, taking place with support from EU4Business in Vanadzor on 7-8 April 2018.
The deadline for registration is 26 March.
The Hackathon is supported by the EU4 Business ‘Support to SME Development in Armenia’ (SMEDA) project, which is co-funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and implemented by GIZ’s Private Sector Development in the South Caucasus Programme.
The Hackathon aims to promote the tourism industry in Armenia, bringing innovative solutions and services to the market, which will be more attractive for tourists and will ensure more income for implementers.
Innovative ideas, particularly in the following areas, will be encouraged by the jury:
- Technological solutions for raising awareness about tourism in Armenia
- Improvement of information search
- Development of innovative tourism ideas
Ideas can also promote wine, heritage and eco tourism.
One of the objectives is the development of tourism in the Lori region and Vanadzor, where tourism is a priority sector of the economy.
The Hackathon aims to bring forth innovative services/products in the field of tourism, which will be of interest both for Armenian and world tourism market and will ensure tourism flow and revenue.
Organisers will accept applications with ideas that have a clear implementation plan, with a budget that does not exceed 25,000,000 AMD.
Twenty teams from all over Armenia will be selected based on the criteria set by organisers. The maximum number of team members is 4. In total, 80 participants are expected at the Hackathon.
Teams will be working on the prototypes of their ideas/products for 24 hours and will submit for the jury’s decision.
Jury members will include the best professionals in the field.
Prizes of 2,000,000 AMD, 1,200,000 AMD and 750,000 AMD are determined for the winners of the Hackathon. The prizes will be granted as professional services for development of the proposed product, such as marketing expenses or translation or study trip to Europe.
The EU4Business SMEDA project supports the improvement of the business and investment climate for SMEs in Armenia. It aims to strengthen the private sector, support SME coordination mechanisms, and foster links between research institutions and the private sector, as well as providing access to finance for SMEs.
