A two-day training workshop on certification in line with international standards is being organised on 17-18 July for Ukrainian berry producers, as part of the ‘Eastern Partnership: Ready to Trade’ project, funded by the European Union as part of the EU4Business initiative, and implemented by the International Trade Centre (ITC).
The ITC, working with the Ukrainian Berries Association, has organised the training workshop in the city of Mragowo in Poland, focusing on certification under the HACCP System (ISO 22 000). The training is designed for Ukrainian processing enterprises in the berry sector, which already export or plan to enter the EU markets.
The first day of the training will allow participants to learn about the HACCP system, its principles, requirements and certification specifics. The second day will be held at the site of a large Polish processing company - WILD Poland Sp. o.o. Production Plant Mragowo, where HACCP standards are already in place, so the participants will consolidate their theoretical knowledge by following all the control points of a certified enterprise.
The training will be run by Marek Zadernowski, a Polish expert, who has many years of practical experience in managing food quality and safety in global and European companies.
The HACCP system is approved globally, and in some countries its implementation is mandatory, because it guarantees the safety of food products. Having a HACCP certificate opens new export opportunities for processors and allows companies to work in different markets virtually without limitations. The main goal of the training is to explain the HACCP requirements, as well as their implementation in manufacturing in order to obtain a relevant certificate. The understanding of those processes is an important part of getting prepared for export.
The aim of the Eastern Partnership: Ready to Trade project is to improve the competiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Ukraine and other Eastern Partnership countries and to connect them to international and EU markets. In Ukraine, the project primarily supports the berries sector.
