Green Economy Days

 |
07/12/2017 to 08/12/2017

An International conference on the green economy is taking place in Lviv on 7-8 December, organised under the EU4Business initiative with the aim of providing a platform for cooperation between Ukrainian and European biomass and biogas market participants.

The Green Economy Days conference is hosted by the Lviv Business Support Centre, part of the EU-funded Network of Business Support Centres, implemented by the EBRD in Ukraine. The conference is aimed at:

  • Business owners and market leaders: biofuels and biogas producers, energy service companies, etc.
  • Managers of companies and enterprises-suppliers of raw materials: state forestry, agricultural companies, etc.
  • International Financial Institutions;
  • Representatives of selected cities and communities with proposals for business cases on biogas and biomass projects

The conference will bring together all interested parties, producers, sellers, buyers and owners of raw materials. Together, they plan to create a business ecosystem in the Ukrainian bioenergy market for the implementation of innovative technological solutions for improving the quality and certification of products and for establishing logistics processes and creating a proper market.

The organisers of the event say the Ukrainian biomass market is growing by 30-35% a year. The spike in gas prices in Ukraine in 2014 has lead to a massive switch to alternative sources of energy, primarily solid biomass, with constant demand for biomass products from operators of heating stations, public utilities, corporate sector and private households.

European know-how and capital can give a significant impetus for the development of the Ukrainian market for biofuels and biogas. This will enable local producers to develop their existing potential, increase production volumes and improve the quality of their products.

The Lviv Business Support Centre is part of the EU-funded Network of Business Support Centres, which aims to improve the competitiveness and bankability of Ukrainian SMEs through the provision of business advice and capacity building. It also supports BSOs in 15 regions of Ukraine in setting up a network of EU4Business Business Support Centres (BSCs). At least 30,000 SMEs and entrepreneurs will benefit from the project.
