EU leaders to meet with representatives of EaP countries at Brussels summit

The Eastern Partnership Summit will be held in the Europa building in Brussels, the seat of the Council of the EU.

EU leaders will meet with their counterparts in the six Eastern Partnership countries at the 5th EaP Summit in Brussels on 24 November 2017.

The summit is being held to plan future cooperation between the EU and EaP countries and discuss progress made since the 4th EaP Summit held in Riga in May 2015.

It will discuss how to strengthen cooperation in the four priority areas agreed in Riga:

  • stronger economy: economic development and better market opportunities
  • stronger governance: strengthening of institutions and good governance
  • stronger connectivity: enhancing interconnections, notably in the areas of transport and energy, and
  • stronger society: increasing mobility and contacts between people.

Twenty deliverables for 2020 in these four areas were identified by the European External Action Service (the EU’s diplomatic service) and the European Commission in the report, Eastern Partnership - Focusing on key priorities and deliverables

Side events have been organised to coincide with the Summit, under the current Estonian Presidency of the EU Council. They include:

  • the 4th EaP Business Forum in Talliln on 26-27 October 2017
  • the EaP E-partnership Conference  in Tallinn on 4 October 2017
  • the 2nd EaP Media Conference in Kyiv on 13 September 2017, and the
  • EaP Civil Society Conference in Tallinn on 25-26 October 2017.
