The Prime Minister of Belarus Andrei Kobyakov and European Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy Johannes Hahn will be among a number of top-level speakers to address the Belarusian-European Economic Forum in Luxembourg on 27 October 2017. The forum is organised by the National Agency of Investment and Privatisation of Belarus, and the Belarusian ministries of foreign affairs and economy
The forum – titled ‘Belarus. Invest in tomorrow’ – will bring together Belarusian credit and financial institutions and business entities with their European partners, aiming to promote the unique strengths of the Belarusian economy (IT, logistics) among Western business circles.
The goals of the forum include:
- attracting Western investments in the creation of new production capacities in Belarus;
- to study the Luxembourg experience in the development of the financial system and the formation of the country as an internationally recognised financial and investment centre;
- raise awareness of potential customers about the capabilities of Belarusian IT companies to produce software products;
- discussion of the list of priority infrastructure projects, the implementation of which will create new competitive channels for the delivery of goods through Belarus to and from Western Europe, including within the framework of the China’s One Belt, One Road initiative.
The European Commission, European Investment Bank (EIB) and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) are all represented at the forum, together with representatives of the Belarusian government, businesses and financial institutions, and key European stakeholders in the fields of infrastructure, transport, and IT.
Through its EU4Business programme, the European Commission works hand in hand with the EIB and the EBRD in Belarus to improve access to finance and foreign markets, building business skills and encouraging entrepreneurship.
