The Mykolaiv Business Support Centre, with the support of the EBRD under the EU4Business initiative, is organising a conference on aqua farming on 27 June.

The conference is aimed at SMEs working in the fish farming sector, academic economists and ichtyologists, ecologists, public officials working in the sector, as well as individuals interested in opening their own business in this area. The event will be held in the framework of the annual European Maritime Day (EMD).

With its long coastline with optimal areas for the cultivation of sea products and further processing, the Mykolaiv Oblast has ideal conditions for the development of aqua farming enterprises.

Development of aqua farming as a sustainable business will create a promising new direction in the economy of the region, as well as generate employment. At the same time, in Europe and worldwide, there is a steadily growing demand for sea products, which shows that there is a significant potential for both domestic and foreign sales.

The conference will provide an opportunity to discuss the renewal of large-scale aqua farming in the Mykolayiv region and the reasons of its poor progress and existing problems, looking at ways to solve them and to assess market prospects.

The Mykolayiv Business Support Centre is part of the EU-funded Network of Business Support Centres, implemented in Ukraine by the EBRD, with the aim of improving improve the competitiveness and bankability of Ukrainian SMEs through the provision of business advice and capacity building. At least 30,000 SMEs and entrepreneurs will benefit from the project.
